Properties
Sodium formate is one of the simplest organic carboxylates. It is white crystal or powder with a slight formic acid smell. Slightly deliquescence and hygroscopicity. It is soluble in about 1.3 phr water and glycerin, slightly soluble in ethanol and octanol, but insoluble in ether. Its aqueous solution is alkaline.
Application
It is used to produce sodium hydrosulfite, oxalic acid and formic acid. In leather industry, it is used as camouflage acid in chrome leather making, catalyst and stabilizing synthetic agent, reducing agent in printing and dyeing industry.
